About Chiropractic

“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease. ~ ”
Thomas A. Edison

Chiropractic is concerned with the framework of bones and muscles that support the body (the musculoskeletal system). Some problems of the musculoskeletal system can be caused by accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and everyday wear and tear.* Chiropractic specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system, particularly involving the spine and its effects on your nervous system.

The perception of Chiropractic is often limited to the treatment of back pain, but as Primary Healthcare Providers, Chiropractors are consulted about a whole range of conditions. Chiropractors also place an emphasis on nutrition and exercise, wellness and healthy lifestyle modifications which when correctly applied will improve the health of individuals. Even long standing conditions can be helped, or even prevented, as the body’s compensations for old injuries are corrected through treatment.

It is increasingly common to find healthy individuals, and particularly sports persons from all disciplines, incorporate regular chiropractic consultations into their routine in order to not just normalise, but to optimise their overall function and therefore performance.

Patients usually refer themselves to chiropractors (called 'self-referral'). Chiropractors take a full clinical history and examine patients by sight and by touch, carrying out a thorough physical examination. This can include neurological and orthopaedic tests if needed.* Chiropractors also recognise the value and responsibility of working co-operatively with other health care practitioners in the best interest of the patient.
