About Me
My name is Ruth Thomas and I am a Counsellor. I am registered and accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I provide therapeutic counselling with clients aged over 18, and also work with children and young people.
I am trained, qualified and experienced in a variety of evidence based approaches including Integrative Humanistic Counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I have worked as a Counsellor in a variety of settings in Education, Voluntary Sector and Private Practice for over 13 years.
Therapeutic Work
I work with a wide range of presenting difficulties including:
- Depression and Low Mood
- Anxiety – Generalised, Social, Phobia, Panic Attacks
- Trauma - Complex/Developmental and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by experiences such as rape, violence, childhood abuse and neglect, and serious accidents or events
- Bereavement and loss – death of others, relationships changing and ending, job loss, transitions in life
- Personal Development - understanding yourself and your choices better and making changes
The Process
After an initial telephone conversation with you I will offer you an Initial Appointment. This is to find out more about your experiences and difficulties and look at the outcomes you are hoping for from counselling. We can agree a way forward based on your needs.
